A1 Great! Part lies, part heart, part truth, part garbage.

be a man

Both bored and busy these days, not sure what to do with myself.

I was going to write a short how-to on using your own MP3 files as ringtones on the Nokia 6265i phone from TELUS Mobility (instead of having to download them at a few bucks a pop), but of course Howard Forums has it covered. Really, really easy hack, as it turns out. Don’t let the technical jargon scare you off.

So, some links, because there’s too many in my bookmarks at the moment:

  • You may have heard that the great Leslie Harpold passed away earlier this month. Leslie was one of the first real internet rockstars, someone whose sites I’d visit once in a while just to see what the elite were doing, so that I could copy it and keep my spot in the B list, years ago. This is not a eulogy over at the Morning News is a fine appreciation written by some of those other rockstars I wished I’d known myself.
  • Logopond, a source of inspiration for the next time you need to get your colors and stuff just right.
  • What happens to your body if you drink a Coke right now? More to the point, what happens to my body if I drink a Jack and coke right now?
  • Things My Boyfriend Says. Good times.
  • The new U2 best-of disc has a new song or two, of course, but I resist its purchase. I already have their other two decade retrospectives, and of course all of the original albums where this material comes from in the first place. But hey, let’s show some love for the video for ‘Window in the Skies’, a neat effort that deserves a watch or two.

Tomorrow, I disseminate my wife’s awesome shortbread cookies, far and wide. I may never recover from all the praise that will surely be heaped upon me.

I have a Motorola V3i and I keep changing my mp3s in it every 2 weeks or so. I just connect the data cable to the pc and delete the previous mp3s in my cell and then replace them with more songs. Then I select one as my ringtone and use it for the next few days.
I also copy the photos I take from my cell into my computer (for hosting to Flickr at a later stage) in the same way. I love it.
My current ringtone is Bobby McFerris “Don’t Worry Be Happy”. Everyone around me smiles when they hear that whistling part!

Love the coke thingie. Sent it to my sister, who’s 14-year-old son goes pretty-well-literally INSANE when he drinks coke.

Roshan – TELUS locks all of their handsets to prevent such customization. They figure making users spend three bucks or so for a ringtone is a better business model than letting people feel like they really own their hardware, which makes such hacks a necessity.
