slow data saves teenage reputations
The internet was pretty new as a mass-market thing back when I was in high school, all Lynx-based green text on black backgrounds down at the local library and stuff. Worked well for looking up cheat codes for Mortal Kombat 2, which had just arrived at the arcade four blocks away, but that was about it.
If broadband and video codecs were available back then, I’m pretty sure Jody and I would have made our stupid exploits a lot more public, a lot like this nonsense over at YouTube. So hey, let’s hear it for 14.4 modems!

Word. Just today I was looking around on YouTube because of a link a friend had sent me, and was thinking to myself: “how tragically comedic would it be for me to import certain musical clips from NITFOB and put them online here” … and then I though, “tragic, yes; comedic, no” and refrained heartily from doing so. One day, one of us will run for government, and those damned tapes will surface.
