on keyboard goo
My wife and I tend toward romance. A few years ago at Christmastime, she gave me a very thoughtful gift – Surface Guardian swabs. The house was rockin’ that night, let me tell you.
I’m not complaining. I appreciate functional gifts. Because my keyboard does get gross every once in a while.
So I’m sitting here cleaning my desk just now, Where The Magic Happens, and found a few of these swabs left over from the last great keyboard cleaning. And I know I can’t be alone in having accumulated finger sweat (or whatever it is) on my home row hardware, so I thought I’d tell the internet about something that seems strange to me.
My \ key, which does | when I press it and Shift together, is the dirtiest one of all. It’s not exactly a commonly-pressed button, nor is it a finger rest or something. How does it happen? Am I alone in witnessing (and enabling, I guess) this phenomenon?
Y’all will probably act like you don’t create hand gunk. I know the truth, so just let it out, OK. Let yourselves be.
