up and at them

I made the trip down to Brantford for the funeral on Friday, and then on to a tiny chapel on Mount Horeb for the interment. The cemetery in the middle of nowhere was made more remote by Saturday’s cold and wind, but this quiet spot, beside the church with no running water (or online presence, natch) seemed the right place.

It was a difficult week, and now it’s time to move forward.

Some good things, in spite of all of the rest:

  • We got away from it all for a couple hours with a meal at the Tavolini, our absolute favorite restaurant in Brantford (and perhaps anywhere). The familiar surroundings were a real comfort, and the food was tremendous, as always.
  • Spent a bit of time with friends Julie and Nyoman, and finally got to meet beautiful Anjali, who I’ve talked about before. She looked like a little Buddha, all plump and roly poly.
  • Picked up the new Sam Roberts record before the trip, and got a few listens in along the way. Love it. I’m sure it’ll be hanging out at the top of my Last.fm charts for a while.
  • My Montreal Canadiens looked fine in their playoff debut against Carolina last night – managed to catch the last 20 minutes of the game, and I think they’ll do OK. I’ll have to watch another game down at the pub sometime.

Back to work, parenting, finances, housekeeping. Some normalcy will be a good thing.
